West Seattle Kitchen Cabinet Refresh

The owners of this charming century-old West Seattle house opted for a modern shaker kitchen cabinet update in custom paint, and we think the end result is absolutely stunning! Since they were swapping their large gas range for a sleek induction range, they opted for a more modern shaker update, instead of replicate the raised shaker look of their existing kitchen cabinet doors. The rich, off-white uppers play off the wavy texture of the tile, while the light green base cabinets (October Mist, in case you’re wondering what color it is) provide a delightful, subtle contrast.

Functionally, the owners’ goal was to add storage space so they could take advantage of their counters for food prep and presentation. By adding a whole wall of custom-made pantry cabinets and relocating the ovens, we were able to add plenty of places for them to put cookware, pantry staples, small appliances, and dishware. We added a few features, like pull-out half moon trays in the corner cabinets, stand-mixer lifter hardware to help put away their oft-used Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, as well as pull out spice trays, designed specifically for the cornucopia of spices and herbs this family uses. Finally, raising the wall cabinets allowed us to create a greater sense of space for their counter tops, and also add under cabinet lighting, hidden by a light valence, to really accentuate the room they have now.
